Loro Piana Malfilé Lavato 3/12 × 3

100% Merino Wool

Loro Piana Malfilé Lavato is one of those exceptionally rare cone yarns that is almost impossible to find in today's deadstock market. Not only is it produced from incredibly soft superfine merino wool, but it has also undergone a professional washing process (lavato) at the mill—a feature seldom seen in industrial yarns intended for luxury garment production.

Most mill yarns are sold on cone with spinning oils still present, often masking the true softness and character of the fiber until after washing. Malfilé Lavato is different. The yarn has already been washed by Loro Piana, removing the spinning oils and allowing its natural softness, loft, and drape to be fully appreciated from the moment it reaches your needles.

The superfine merino used in this yarn is extraordinarily soft, with a buttery hand that rivals cashmere. Smooth, supple, and completely comfortable against the skin, it offers all the luxury of premium fashion yarns while retaining the resilience, breathability, and practicality that make fine merino such a beloved fiber.

Another rarity is its weight. Deadstock cone yarns are most commonly found in fine gauges intended for machine knitting, while thicker hand-knitting weights are increasingly difficult to source. At approximately 133m per 100g, Malfilé Lavato is a substantial Aran-weight yarn that can be worked directly from the cone, making it an exceptional find for knitters seeking luxury mill yarns without the need to hold multiple strands together.

The distinctive malfilé construction introduces subtle texture and movement throughout the strand, giving finished fabrics depth, character, and an effortlessly refined appearance. The result is knitwear that feels relaxed yet luxurious—perfect for sweaters, cardigans, scarves, and timeless wardrobe staples designed to be worn and enjoyed for years.

A luxurious washed merino yarn with organic texture, exceptional softness, and the understated elegance for which Italian mills are renowned.
