Is deadstock yarn used or damaged?
No. Deadstock yarn is unused yarn that is no longer needed for its original production purpose. Its availability reflects surplus inventory, discontinued colours or changed production plans, rather than previous use.
Can I hand knit directly from a cone?
Yes. Most makers knit directly from the cone. Very fine industrial yarn can be held double or with multiple strands, depending on the gauge and fabric you want.
What is cone yarn?
Cone yarn is yarn wound onto a cone for efficient mill and machine use instead of being packaged as retail balls or skeins. The format does not limit it to machine knitting: our deadstock cone yarn can also be used for hand knitting, crochet and weaving.
Why are quantities limited?
Deadstock comes from an existing production lot rather than a continuously manufactured retail range. Once a colour or composition sells out, the same yarn may not be available again.
Should I wash cone yarn before knitting?
