Cashmere is valued for exceptional softness and lightweight warmth. Our deadstock cashmere yarn comes from finite surplus lots, including pure cashmere and considered blends with silk, wool, cotton, linen or mohair. These combinations balance cashmere's soft handle with qualities such as silk's drape, wool's elasticity or cotton's breathable comfort.
Much of this yarn was originally prepared for industrial knitting, which is why it is supplied on cones and may be finer than familiar retail skeins. Compare products by metres per 100g rather than relying only on names such as lace, fingering or DK. A fine cashmere can be knitted alone for a light fabric or held in multiple strands to build weight, while a cashmere blend can add structure, sheen or durability to a garment.
Cashmere cone yarn may feel firmer than expected when it first arrives because spinning oils help it pass smoothly through industrial machinery. Knit directly from the cone, then wash and block your gauge swatch before measuring it. After a gentle wash, cashmere typically softens and blooms, and the fabric can become fuller than it appeared on the needles. Use the washed swatch to judge softness, drape and fit.
